The 9th IREN Eastern Africa Media Training set for March 9 - 12, 2011, is designed to offer value to Eastern Africa journalists, media practitioners and communication experts on how to cover development issues in a changing global economic dispensation.
Is Eastern Africa Ready for China, India and Europe?
Issue: Europe and India have shaped activities in East Africa ever since the construction of the Kenya – Uganda Railway. The political and economic architecture of the region is largely European, while India has moved from its “soft power” approach in engaging East Africans to one where they give aid, capital and personnel. China on the other hand has dug out old sailing records to indicate a historical relationship and is set to be a major economic player in the region. What are the threats and opportunities posed by the renewed vigour by the trio? Is Eastern Africa ready for them?
Date: March 9 – 12, 2011
Time: Starts at 09h00.
Venue: Sarova – Pan Afric Hotel, Nairobi
Nature of Event: A workshop for Eastern Africa journalists to appraise the region's engagement with China, India and Europe with key theme to enable media articulate better the interests of the region while seeking to understand regional partners.
