Tanzania launched a special book "Corporate Tanzania" that is expected to promote the country's investment opportunities abroad. The book, which was launched by Tanzanian's Vice President, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, is a state of the art business, trade and investment guide, which has been described as a detailed and unbiased source of wealth, facts and information on the economic and political atmosphere in Tanzania.
Leases to Be Issued to Boost Food Production
The Zimbabwean government will give 99-year leases to the first batch of resettled black commercial farmers in a bid to boost food production. According to Ngoni Masoka (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands) the leases will demonstrate the government's commitment to empowering black farmers who had benefited from the government's controversial fast-track land reform programme. The leases will be issued to farmers who have been on their plots for at least three years, and have been vetted by the National Land Board for competence and commitment to farming.
Campaign to Promote Development Issues
A campaign to place development at the heart of the print and electronic media is going on in Kenya. The campaign which focuses on democracy, development, ethnicity and peaceful co-existence is the brainchild of the Media Focus on Africa Foundation. According to Media Focus Executive Director Frank Klein, Africa has great stories besides the ones on corruption tribal strife, that could improve understanding among communities.
SA's Corruption Score
SA has slipped marginally down Transparency International's corruption perceptions index, despite an overall improvement in the country's score. The study measures the views of businessmen and analysts about corruption in various countries. Last year, SA was placed 46 out of 159 countries on this index, but this year, the country fell to 51 out of 163 countries. However SA scored 4,6 out of 10, compared to last year's 4,5 -- suggesting that the country is moving in the right direction when it comes to tackling corruption.
