A Crop Calendar for African Farmers

African farmers are the continent’s pilots to food security. In a similar manner that the aviation industry successfully tapped on weather information to transform itself into a multi-billion dollar industry complete with clear safety standards; farmers too can spur productivity. Farmers need information on weather, soils, pests, diseases and markets among others.

The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) detailed Crop Planting Guide for farmers (accessed Nov. 16, 2010) and other interested stakeholders covering 43 countries in Africa is a great step forward.
