Conference on Sustainable Development of China – Africa Relations

In recent years, China has deepened its cooperation with Africa in political, economic and cultural areas through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China’s involvement on the continent calls for an urgent upgrade of Africa’s knowledge system and dialogue to enhance mutual benefits. As African countries and China prepare for the upcoming FOCAC Ministerial Conference to be held later this year in Beijing, the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi would like to offer Africa’s top think tank leaders and scholars an opportunity to evolve key issues to be addressed at the forum and be disseminated widely for public discourse.

Think Tank Leaders and Scholars are invited to the Conference on Sustainable Development of China – Africa Relations to be held in Nairobi Kenya at a date to be announced soon. 

The key objective of this conference is to discuss issues to be addressed at the forthcoming FOCAC Ministerial Conference. The conference will also feature a special workshop to propose key issues to be addressed at the forthcoming FOCAC Ministerial Conference in 2012. The outcome of the deliberations will be published in book format.

Eligibility: Participation is open to African and Chinese think tank leaders and scholars. All participants are expected to write full and original papers on themes outlined below.

1. Discuss Development Cooperation between China and Africa
2. Is China a modern day neocolonialist in Africa?
3. The benefits and challenges of China – Africa people to people exchanges
4. The impact of China-Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation on African’s livelihoods 
5. The cost benefit analysis of Foreign Direct Investments by Chinese Companies in Africa
6. China-Africa peace and security: what is the state of affairs and future challenges?

Submission of abstracts closes on February 28, 2012. Selected submissions will be notified by March 22, 2012. Successful entries’ travel and accommodation costs to Nairobi will be paid for. Please submit your abstract to [email protected]
