Tanzania Hosts National Lottery

Published on 2nd February 2015

We are witnessing the coming about of the second largest lottery on the African Continent. The impact of the Tanzanian National Lottery will be felt by various public and private sector stakeholders instantaneously as it is launched. Hundreds of millions of US Dollars will be made available through the performance of the lottery to worthy causes while individual entrepreneurs and a plethora of businesses will reap considerable economic benefits.

The National Lottery will have a telling effect on skills development and sustainable livelihoods while a good number of Tanzanians will be employed directly by Murhandziwa Limited, many more translating into thousands will benefit from the spin-off employment opportunities as many suppliers will provide services and goods to Murhandziwa Limited.

Our retail outlets will experience increased and high value footfall – simply put many more people will visit those shops and supermarkets selling lottery tickets. The retail industry everywhere in the world is positively affected by the presence of a good lottery in its country. Many people will realise that the lottery is a natural part of the retail sector of the economy.

Gidani International (Proprietary) Limited of which Murhandziwa Limited is a subsidiary will see to it that there is a transfer of skills as rapidly and as effectively as possible. Murhandziwa’s management and operatives will in the majority be Tanzanian nationals right from inception. They will be trained by some of the most experienced lottery industry experts globally.

Hundreds of citizens will become multi-millionaires and hundreds of thousands if not millions will be prize winners in other categories during the term of our licence. Great care will be taken to provide support for our players and winners.

Gidani International is immensely assured by the seriousness of the regulatory authority of the Republic of Tanzania in the form of the Gaming Board of Tanzania. The licence has particular stipulations and stringencies in line with the legislation which are aimed at responsible and integrity rich participation in the National Lottery.

We are inspired by the knowledge that the fundamental reason for the existence of the lottery is to address the developmental poverty alleviation and other socio-economic imperatives of the country. There lies the public private partnership root of the relationship between the Operator and its supply partners on the one (1) hand and the Regulator, Government and people of Tanzania on the other. It excites us to know that South Africa and Tanzania have a strong bilateral relationship over and above belonging to one regional block, the African Union. We pledge to the Government of this country our commitment to conduct our business with utmost integrity and impeccable professionalism.

The Tanzanian National Lottery will soon be recognised as the epitome of African technological and business excellence. We are proud to say that our infrastructure, technology and equipment are African manufactured and world-class. Four thousand (4,000) Point of Sale (POS) terminals and One Thousand (1,000) mobile instruments will be deployed in the next few weeks as part of our rollout. The first ticket will be sold on 4th of July which will form part of the official launch of the Tanzanian National Lottery.

Murhandziwa means “the loved one” in Tsonga, one (1) of the eleven (11) official languages of South Africa. I have every confidence that Murhandziwa will be “the loved one” in every household and to all eligible citizens.
