Africa Offers Lessons for Jews and Palestinians

The Israeli/Palestinian "two-state solution" formula has always been a complete and utter nonsense. If black and white South Africans ~ who have far LESS in common with each other on every possible level than the Abrahamic cousins that are the Palestinian Muslims and Israeli Jews ~ could nonetheless realise a single, unified, non-racial republic on the African continent, there is not the slightest shred of credibility to the argument that Israelis and Palestinians are so “alienated” from each other as to preclude their ability to realise a non-sectarian, non-racial Judaeo-Palestinian republic in the Middle East.

Palestinians ~ who routinely liken their plight to that endured by black South Africans under apartheid ~ have morally bankrupted their own cause by employing barbaric terrorist tactics that were never resorted to by the black victims of the far more brutal and murderous apartheid regime in South Africa. Throughout that entire conflict not a single black suicide bomber ever took the lives of white civilians nor was a single katyusha rocket launched from Soweto into the white suburbs of Johannesburg. And yet the black people of South Africa succeeded in rallying the world into ending a murderous racist tyranny which had taken many thousands more lives than have been lost during the entire Palestinian nakba or catastrophe.

Palestinians have to ask themselves why it is that black South Africans, who came under apartheid rule in the exact same year which saw the beginning of the Zionist occupation of Palestine (1948), were able to reach the “finish line” of freedom, with the complete dismantlement of apartheid and the election of South Africa’s first black president in 1994, far more speedily than the Palestinians who continue to find themselves under firm Israeli occupation in 2009. The answer is simple and stark: the Palestinians have been seeking the wrong objective (a “Palestinian state”) and have employed the wrong methods (national and international terrorism) in order to realize it.

The anti-apartheid struggle was not driven by the quest to create a “black state” in the same way that the Palestinians seek the establishment of a “Palestinian state.” The goal in South Africa was “one person, one vote” towards the establishment of a single, unified, non-racial democracy in which ALL South Africans would enjoy equal rights as they now do. The goal in South Africa was not a “two-state” solution which would have seen that African nation partitioned into a “black state” and a “white state” and the division of Pretoria into “two-capitals” with “east Pretoria” as the capital of the whites and “west Pretoria” as the capital of the blacks (in that moronic way in which the Palestinians insist on “East Jerusalem” as their future capital).

Furthermore, Palestinians don’t seem to realise that their quest for a “Palestinian state” involves a dangerous concession to the Jews for it has the effect of tacitly or implicitly acknowledging the right of Jews to have a “Jewish state” alongside the Palestinian one ~ an utterly illegal notion. Jews have no more right to a faith-based “Jewish” state any more than do Buddhists, Hindus, Christians or any other religion and to call for a Palestinian state is to infer and confer the right of existence and legitimacy of, and to, a non-Palestinian i.e. Jewish one.

Conceding to Jews such a thing on the grounds that they have historically suffered persecution in Gentile states (and can therefore only be secure in a state of their own) would require a similar concession to Black American separatists who have suffered far greater and more persistent injustice and whose demand for self-determination is thus possessed of infinitely greater moral and political force. And yet the same black president of America, Barack Hussein Obama, who supports the idea of a Jewish state, displays nothing but disdain for a Nation of Islam-like Black Muslim state in the America he rules. And, furthermore, it is precisely Barack Obama’s multi-racial America and Jacob Zuma’s multi-ethnic South Africa which prove the bankruptcy of the “two-state” concept and provide the ideal models upon which the Israelis and Palestinians must now base their own trans-religious/trans-ethnic, unified Judaeo-Palestinian republic.

This future state, constituting as it would the joint homeland of the Judaeo-Palestinian “children of Abraham”, should be named the “Republic of Abraham”. This would unburden it of the baggage embedded in the terms “Israel” and “Palestine” and provide a “neutral” state-definition upon which all parties can agree. Jerusalem would be its undivided “Abrahamic” capital, securing the rights of the adherents of all three Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and its constitution would draw from all three faith traditions in the forging of a collective Abrahamic nationality. Its parliament would be an Abrahamic one and its armed forces would be comprised of the current Israeli Defence Force (IDF) and absorb into its ranks personnel drawn from the HAMAS and Fatah militia to form the Abrahamic National Defence Force (ANDF) in the same way that, in the wake of apartheid’s collapse, the once-notorious South African Defence Force (SADF) absorbed into its ranks elements of the ANC’s armed wing, Umkhonto We Sizwe, to form the current South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

In addition, the Republic of Egypt should consider holding a national referendum on whether or not to cede at least half of the Sinai Peninsula to this new “Republic of Abraham” as a way of persuading the Israelis and Palestinians to embrace the “one state” concept as this would have the effect of nearly doubling in size the current territory of Israel-Palestine and creating an entity large enough to accommodate the full “right of return” of every Palestinian and Jew in their respective Diasporas. And thus would this long-running dispute have been finally brought to a satisfactory conclusion.
