On 19 and 20 June 2014, the First Intergovernmental Consultive Forum on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries will take place in Mombasa. The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru M. Kenyatta is expected to attend and open the Forum. On behalf of all development partners active in the agriculture sector in Kenya, German Ambassador Andreas Peschke will open the conference.

The Forum will address important issues of harmonisation and coordination of investments in the agriculture sector in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and Agriculture Sector Development Strategy. The need for better coordination arises from the new Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the devolved system of governance.

Agriculture is the key sector for providing the ground for sustainable economic growth and is hence one of the most important focal area for investment in the majority of counties. The international development partners therefore emphasize the need for focused and determined sector investment plans at the county level.

The support to agriculture and rural development is a priority area of German Kenyan Development Cooperation. From 2010 until 2013, Germany has committed EUR 124,3 million from to support agriculture, rural and urban development. In 2013, Germany has pledged another EUR 51,7 million for this sector.
