The African Think Tank Leadership Conference (August 29 – 30, 2006, Nairobi) Sponsored by the Joseph P. Overton Leadership Center, a division of the Inter-Region Economic Network (IREN) In Cooperation with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy

A wealth of ideas and scholarship make a powerful case for a free, entrepreneurial and competitive economy. New generations of leaders are needed to explain these ideas to policy makers, the general public in Africa and create organizations such as think tanks for that purpose. To succeed, these organizations need to be well-managed and skilled in communications.

The Fourth Africa Resource Bank Meeting (November 26 – 29, 2006)

Theme:Turning African People Into a Resource

For a long time, Africa’s people have been viewed as a “time bomb”, waiting to explode. Others view them as the ‘white man’s burden” while some look at them as a huge market-an engine to Africa’s wealth. Others would rather talk about a ‘shackled continent’. It’s in this regard that the 4th Africa Resource Bank Conference focuses on “Turning African People Into a Resource.”

Please consider writing and submitting your paper by September 30, 2006 to enable the organizing committee to include your views in the brainstorming document that will be circulated to all registered participants by October 25, 2006. Each author will also be allowed 10 minutes to defend their views. IREN will publish ‘Reclaiming Africa – 2’ from the views raised in this meeting. Registration is $ 300. All participants are encouraged to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. For details email [email protected] Attention to Jackie
