Donald Trump who rode on the wave of making America Great Again to clinch the US Presidency  has declared that America will never enrich foreign industry at the expense of American industry; defend other nations’ borders while neglecting its border; or spend trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure falls into disrepair and decay.

This stand, while entirely not new, will greatly affect relations between the US and other countries. It is a wakeup call for Africa to go back to the drawing table, rethink its foreign policy, reconsider its trade regime in an asymmetrical global order, and work towards the continent’s agricultural, mineral and intellectual resources benefitting the African people. Gravitating towards fulfilling African interests while eliciting a win-win scenario with development partners is the way to go.
