Enactus Kenya Announces the Ford College Community Challenge Winners

The Enactus teams from Kenyatta University, Moi University and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology have been selected by Ford Motor Company Fund to receive USD 1,000 each to implement their community projects. The Ford C3 Building Sustainable Communities Projects run in partnership with the Ford Motor Company Fund and global non-profit organization Enactus.

“The Ford College Community Challenge is a key part of our global strategy to empower young people to become transformational agents of change in their communities,” said Mike Schmidt, Director, Education and Global Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund.  “Through C3, we recognize that students can be a huge force for good and that if we give them the right support, they can change in the world.”

The main focus of the grant-winning projects includes recycling and reusing water to manage the water shortage challenge in Kenya from The Enactus Kenyatta University team, The Enactus Moi University team are exploring ways of repurposing glass and plastic waste to make a wide range of home products such as tables. The Enactus JOOUST Team seeks to provide alternative sources of energy to reduce deforestation and its effects on the environment.

The Ford College Community Challenge (C3) initiative mobilizes university students to empower communities to become more sustainable places to work and live. Within the program, student-led community projects are being chosen in Brazil, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, South Africa and the United Kingdom that will address critical community needs through self-sustaining projects.
