Africa Must Market Itself in the South Africa BRICS Summit

Published on 24th July 2018

Africa has an opportunity to market itself during the BRICS Summit in South Africa through the BRICS Outreach that will discuss the topic: BRICS in Africa: Working towards the realisation of the African Aspirations. This means that Rwanda - as Chair of the African Union (AU); Senegal - as Chair of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee (HSGIC); Gabon - as Chair of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS); Uganda - as Chair of the East African Community (EAC); Ethiopia - as Chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD); Togo - as Chair of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS);  Zambia - as incoming Chair of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA); Namibia - as incoming Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC); Angola - as Chair of the SADC Organ; and  Chair of the African Union Commission, Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat will participate in the forum.

It is Africa’s hope that the forum will not be treated as a working vacation. The participating leaders are expected to have done their homework, know what they want and are armed with an agenda based on their strategic developmental plans, detailing the goals of their respective regions, to address and resolve the needs of their people in particular and Africa in general.
