Theme: The effects of Corruption, Privatization and New Technology on a Nation’s Economy

The Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) is proud to host the First National High School Debate on development issues. Out of the 200 essays submitted from 30 High Schools across the country, 30 best students have been selected to participate in this event. “This will be a historical occasion given the fact that the debate will be in Kiswahili language. At IREN, we recognize the role of Kiswahili in business in East and Central Africa and our track record is very strong in facilitating business minded youth in this region,” says Jacqueline Sungu, the IREN Kenya Youth Program Coordinator.

During this inaugural debate, students will discuss issues on the following topics based on essays they submitted to our office: -

    * The effects of corruption and privatization on a nation’s economy
    * The role of technology to development

IREN which hosts a leading University based Entrepreneurship program (SIFE), is very keen on inculcating business ideals, sound economic policy and wealth generation ideas among the youth. Over 50% of Kenyans are youth and hence urgently need a firm foundation in business ideas if Kenya has to have a generation of producers.

The First, Second and Third best students will win cash prizes of Ksh 10,000, Ksh 7,500 and Ksh 5,000 respectively among other prizes.
