Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University to Represent Kenya at Enactus World Cup Expo in San Jose

The Enactus Kenya Expo 2018 National Champions, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology(JOOUST) students are set to represent Kenya in the upcoming Enactus World Cup 2018 that will take place in San Jose (USA) from October 9-11. The Enactus JOOUST team will be competing with Enactus teams drawn from 36 countries around the globe. The contestants will present their community development projects to over 500 business leaders serving as judges. Enactus JOOUST Team will also showcase some Kenyan Cultures during the World Cultural Experience Session and participate in the World Project Fair and World Water Race project pitching.

Enactus JOOUST won during the 16th Enactus Kenya National Expo held in June, with their project dubbed “Panda Kenya” which involves planting trees to increase forest cover while providing an alternative Source of Renewable Energy to offset Charcoal Burning at the same time. Enactus JOOUST see the need to address climate change, a global problem, beginning with Lake Victoria, the largest Lake in Africa, which has been greatly affected with water hyacinth and borders their home county, Siaya. This year’s edition of Enactus Kenya National Expo attracted 15 universities (both public and private) from all over Kenya. 

Launched in 2002, Enactus Kenya operates under an MOU between the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) and Enactus Worldwide. The Enactus Kenya platform forms a foundation where students gain necessary skills to participate in Start-ups, SMEs and Technology Innovation initiatives.  Enactus Kenya has facilitated skills development for over 4,500 undergraduate students through experiential learning. This has been achieved through community development projects, training and annual national and international competitions organized by Enactus Kenya for the last 16 years.

Enactus’ mission is to create a partnership between business and higher education and equip students with innovative ideas that attract investment through community projects, knowledge sharing and competitions. Enactus Kenya operates under a Business Advisory Council that comprises 9 members.
