What is amiss with most African rulers? Once they assume power, they relegate the electorate to the periphery. In the hotly contested presidential elections in Kenya for example, they blatantly ignored the voice of the people. Both local and international observers as well as members of the Electoral Commission of Kenya reported gross anomalies in favor of one candidate.
Failure to address this fact has led to lawlessness which has been answered by the Government’s heavy handedness, curtailing of essential freedoms, and business standstill.
African rulers ought to accept the wisdom in the saying that one should not soil the plate that he/she has used. They ought to be accountable to their people and consider the effects of their actions.
