World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1945. More than 150 countries observe this event every year.

World Food Day aims to heighten public awareness of the plight of the world's hungry and malnourished and to encourage people worldwide to take action against hunger. Rarely has World Food Day assumed greater meaning than at the present time, as rapidly rising food prices risk increasing the number of hungry people.

To commemorate World Food Day, the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture is pleased to announce a special lecture:

Topic: Food, Facts and Fantasy: The Invasion of Unreason

Date: Thursday, October 16, from 4 until 6 p.m.

Venue: Auditorium Hotel Royal, Schwarzwaldallee 179, 4058 Basel

Keynote Speaker:  Professor Sir Colin Berry

Discussants: John Atkin, Chief Operating Officer Crop Protection, Syngenta and  Karsten Neuffer, Head Strategy & Planning, Syngenta
