The optimism exhibited in the Fifth Multilateral Initiative on Malaria Pan-African Malaria Conference shows that landmark achievements can be made with sustained commitment of multi-sectored approach. Education on causes of malaria, availing anti malarial drugs, preventing malaria through treated bed nets, Indoor Residual Spraying and targeting mosquito breeding grounds are some of the approaches that can guarantee victory if well coordinated. At the moment, says Dr. Christian Loucq, Director of Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI), "A vaccine would add a powerful, cost-effective way to save lives and help eliminate this disease."  

Instead of sensationalizing the use of certain chemicals in the war against malaria, it is prudent to focus on their safe use and cost effectiveness. We know how people contract Malaria: from mosquitoes. We know how to control it: kill the carrier mosquitoes. To deal with the victims of Malaria while ignoring its cause is to preserve the lives of victims a bit longer to feasted upon by the parasite another day.   

The war against malaria presents a perfect opportunity for Africans willing to start enterprises that are not only profit driven but save lives. Industries that produce WHO certified pumps, anti-mosquito chemicals, and anti-malaria drugs should consider working with private enterprise in Africa alongside African governments. We can win the war against mosquitoes through partnership.
