Published on 5th August 2010

The Interim Independent Electoral Commission on Friday gave the final figure of the referendum vote.

This followed the tallying of votes from three constituencies whose results had not been included in the figure released on Thursday night.

According to the IIEC chairman Isaak Hassan, the inclusion of results from Turkana South, Sirisia and Narok South brings to 6,092,593 representing 66.9% the number of those who voted for the proposed constitution. The number of those who voted against it stands at 2,795,059 or 30.1%.

The voter turnout for the country stood at 72.1 percent.

The results will now be gazzetted in the Kenya gazzette before the president promulgates the new law within the next 14 days.
