Farmers and investors are at crossroads. Climate change concerns propelled interest in production of bio-fuels. Jatropha bio fuel, which is considered a better alternative, is said to emit greenhouse gases that are 2.5 to 6 times higher than its fossil fuel equivalent (The Telegraph; accessed March 30, 2011). The quest for clean energy is now competing with food crop production as investors take interest in bio fuels. This has ignited interest in land across developing nations in what is referred to as “land grabs.”
