Equip African Farmers to Fight Hunger

The Oxfam report “Growing a Better Future” (Oxfam.org accessed June 10, 2011) points at how a broken food system and environmental crisis spell hunger for millions. It predicts that prices of staple food such as maize (already high) will more than double in the next 20 years. For example a 90kg bag of maize in western Kenya cost $11.25 last year but now trades at $52.50. Prices are rising but income is either stagnant or on the decrease. While offering very powerful insights on what confronts the poor; the Oxfam report puts blame on profit seekers!
