The IREN Think Tank Forum for East Africa Thought Leaders

Theme: Crafting East Africa's Future

When: 24 -27 August 2011

Venue: Naivasha, Kenya

East Africa's menu is full with both positive and negative developments. East African Community member states are upbeat to meet their targets in their stated visions. The East African Community is now a member of an $800 billion free trade zone that stretches from Cape Town to Cairo. On the other hand, rising food prices, the catastrophic impact of climate change, land grabs by developed nations, rising population and political upheavals threaten the region's stability. How can the East Africans navigate around these? How can East Africans re-orient their mindset away from dependency on donor aid and food insecurity towards individual citizen productivity initiative?

The Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) invites the East African thought leaders for a two day brainstorming workshop on crafting East Africa's future.

Interested participants are asked to send their letters of interest and a one paragraph describing a unique approach they propose to bring on the table. Participation will be by invitation only. Send to [email protected] and cc [email protected]  by July 20, 2011.

The Inter Region Economic Network is a leading independent African think tank that promotes ideas and strategies geared towards causing prosperity in Africa through free enterprise and sound public policy. IREN's key focus areas include targeted events, trainings, research, consultancy, communication and through its flagship magazine The African Executive - published in English every Wednesday.
