When will Africa ever get its act together? The halting of Democratic Republic of Congo’s vote count for parliamentary elections until technical expertise arrives from the United States and Britain is perturbing.  With a replay of the Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Ivory Coast national elections impending, we [Africans] are once again presenting our continent as one that needs externally generated salvation.

As long as Africa's ruling  elites are bent on making wrong socio-economic and political decisions that disenfranchise the electorate, mindless conflicts will be the order of the day, creating a loophole for 'international community' intervention that is driven more by strategic interests than Africa's course.

Having celebrated over four decades of independence,  we  must learn from the mistakes of the past; urgently probe political and economic systems that  rob the citizenry of the right to gainfully participate in governance and create wealth; as well as institute homegrown frameworks that will ensure the aspirations of the citizenry are met.
