Africa must pay close attention to interconnectedness of food security to environmental factors. It estimated that a third of global farm outputs depend on animal pollination, mostly by honey bees (Telegraph.co.uk; accessed March 31, 2012). The work done by bees to pollinate flowers that lead to farm output for American farmers is worth $18 billion per year (Voanews.com; accessed March 31, 2012). It is for this reason that the United States and Europe have spent billions of dollars to establish causes for the collapse of bee colonies.
