Pests and use of prohibited farm inputs barricade Africa’s agricultural produce from access to large markets. Individual country efforts to meet high certification standards demanded by the European Union for example, face threats of contamination from non compliant neighbours. At least 27 African countries have been denied international market access due to fruit flies, plant pests and diseases.
