Westgate Shopping Mall Attack: Kenya Will Emerge Stronger

Published on 24th September 2013

The African Executive expresses profound sadness at the brutal terrorist attack at Nairobi’s Westgate Shopping Mall that saw over 60 people from diverse nationalities lose their lives and over 170 suffer grave injuries.

Westlands has in the recent past proved an alternative base of operations for many firms avoiding the congested city centre. Hundreds of businesses in Nairobi’s Westlands area are reeling from the effects of the siege on Westgate Shopping Mall. The 100-odd businesses situated at Westgate mall have especially been adversely affected.

We wish the injured quick recovery and those who lost their loved ones solace. This tragic event is a sobering moment for Kenya. It must lead the country to review its security architecture to include preventive aspects. We congratulate Kenyans for displaying the spirit of unity and oneness. We also congratulate the friends of Kenya and the international community for their moral and physical support. Kenya will emerge stronger.
