Date: November 13-16, 2013
Venue: Mombasa, Kenya
Theme: Africa Rising: Myth or
Reality?
Recent high growth rates and increased foreign
investment in Africa by developed and emerging economies - reported by the
African Development Bank - have given rise to the idea that the continent is the
next global economic powerhouse. However, some pundits consider these
Afro-optimism reports as hype since the growth has not translated to improved
living standards amongst a majority of Africa's citizenry. Is the continent
experiencing an economic renaissance? Is 'Africa Rising' a myth or reality?
Inter Region Economic Network will host a 2 day workshop to discuss this topic during the 11th Africa Resource bank Meeting. The objectives of this forum include:-
•To establish whether Africa's Rise is a myth or
reality.
•To identify challenges and opportunities facing Africa in the
shifting global dispensation.
•To discuss key strategies for Africa to
navigate the global dispensation.
Participants who wish to make a presentation should indicate the topic they wish to present on. The topic should be based on any of the three objectives above.
Participation is by invitation only. Limited scholarships available on first-come-first-awarded basis. Send application to zaina@irenkenya.com and cc events@irenkenya.com.
