The escalating political violence in Burundi as the country undergoes a political deadlock is a great test to the East African Community and African Union. The African Union has called for the postponement of the impending presidential elections while the EAC leaders brainstorm what to do. Already, thousands of Burundians have fled the country while others are camped in foreign embassy compounds. It is hoped that the AU and EAC will be more proactive, timely and considerate to the needs of the majority of Burundians. The human disaster that not only beckons the country, but is a scar on the image of Africa must be forestalled.
