Burundi Needs Redemption

The situation in Burundi remains volatile. Over 400 people have been killed while nearly 240,000 have fled to neighbouring countries since last April as a result of politically motivated violence. These numbers are not mere statistics. They represent the country’s ultimate resource—its human capital.

Concerted efforts need to be deployed to bring the country to normalcy. It is time the African Union and East African Community put the ‘African solutions to African problems’ mantra to work before the country falls apart and destabilizes the region.
