The standard bearer of the Alternative National Congress, Alexander B. Cummings recently lamented that Liberians are spectators to their country's economy as most of it is controlled by foreigners. This observation is not limited to Liberia alone. In fact, economic pundits have concluded that there is no such thing as the Black Economy.
Endowed with tremendous intellectual and physical resources, it is sad that African economies are owned stock and barrel by people of European-origin, Japanese, Chinese, the Indians and any other economically viable people.
The continent must wake up from slumber, be proactive and take charge of its economic destiny. A good place to begin is to inculcate the productivity ethic within the continent, reward productivity, revise retrogressive trade regimes and add value to natural resources before sale.
