Tsvangirai Passes On as Ethiopia's PM Resigns

Born in1952 in the village of Buhera, about 200-kilometres south of the capital Harare, MDC Leader Morgan Tsvangirai passed away  after battling colon cancer. He worked in the mines, joined Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party at the time of Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, and rose quickly through party ranks, making a name for himself as a trade union organiser. He tried to gain presidency but didn’t succeed on accounts of Mugabe’s brutal backlash. He was active in opposition politics until his death.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn Resigns

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn resigned in what he described as a bid to smooth reforms, following years of violent unrest that threatened the ruling party’s hold on Africa’s second most populous nation. The resignation - unprecedented in Ethiopia’s history - followed a wave of strikes this week in towns near the capital and demonstrations successfully demanding the release of more opposition leaders.
